Panthers Roar into Conference Tournament as Contenders

The hardwood warriors of Philander Smith University are poised for another thrilling postseason run as they cap off an impressive regular season. With a conference record of 14-4 and an overall standing of 18-4, the Panthers have showcased their dominance on the court time and time again.

Their journey to the top has been punctuated by exhilarating victories, none more impressive than their triumphs over Texas College (73-65) and Huston-Tillotson (64-50) at the HBCU Classic in Cedar Park, TX. Not to mention their commanding wins against Central Baptist (93-78) and Tougaloo College (87-62) on their home turf. The Panthers have truly defended their den with an undefeated record on their home court, sending a clear message to all challengers.

Under the seasoned guidance of Coach Todd Day Sr., now in his 8th season at the helm, the Panthers have flourished, amassing over 121 wins under his leadership. Coach Day has instilled a winning culture within the team, guiding them to the conference championship game twice in the past two years.

On the court, the Panthers boast a roster filled with talent and versatility. Leading the charge is Raymond Reece, a force to be reckoned with, averaging an impressive double-double of 16 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. Alongside Reece, Christione Rufus has been a key contributor, showcasing his skills with averages of 11.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game.

David Kellah has established himself as a sharpshooter from beyond the arc, shooting an impressive 40 percent from three-point range while adding 9.4 points per game to the scoreboard. Off the bench, Derrick Woods has been a reliable spark, chipping in with 9.6 points and 4 rebounds per game. And let's not forget about the newcomer Amorey Womack, who has quickly made his mark, averaging 7 points and 2.6 assists off the bench.

As the regular season draws to a close, the Panthers find themselves in the hunt for postseason glory, securing the 2nd seed in the GCAC Hope Credit Union Conference Tournament. Their first test awaits them tomorrow at 3pm against SUNO, the 7th seed, who are coming off a victory against #10 Oakwood University.

With the stage set in Tuscaloosa, AL, and all eyes on Stillman College, the Panthers are primed and ready to showcase their talents on the grandest stage. As they embark on their quest for conference supremacy, one thing is certain - the Panthers are ready to pounce and leave their mark on the tournament.
