The establishment of the Philander Smith University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017 marked a significant milestone for the college, as it celebrated its 140th year of existence. This prestigious institution recognized the importance of honoring the remarkable achievements of athletes, coaches, teams, and contributors who have left an indelible mark on Philander Smith University athletics.

The Athletic Hall of Fame serves as a platform to showcase and commemorate the outstanding accomplishments of individuals and groups who have contributed to the rich sporting heritage of the college. By acknowledging their dedication, skill, and determination, the Hall of Fame highlights the college's commitment to excellence in sports and acts as a source of inspiration for current and future athletes.

Nomination Criteria 

Selection Criteria:

1.  An individual who will be considered on the basis of undergraduate athletic achievement must meet all of the following criteria:

A. Have attended PSC for at least 2 years or be a graduate of Philander Smith University

B. Have graduated at least 5 years prior to nomination

C. Have been a member of a varsity team for a minimum of 2 years

D. Have represented Philander Smith University in a positive fashion both as an undergraduate as well as an alumnus

In addition, nominees must meet at least one of the following additional criteria:

  1. All Conference member for 2 or more years
  2. National Champion
  3. All-American
  4. Distinguished athletic performance on a regional and national level

2. Coaches, administrators, and special supporters of Philander Smith are also eligible for induction into the Hall of Fame, if they:

  1. Have a nomination submitted on their behalf detailing the special nature of their contribution to Philander Smith Athletics
  2. Have conducted themselves in a manner that brings credit to Philander Smith University.

3. Respected Philander Smith University Alumni who bring favor to their alma mater by achieving success in areas relating to athletics is eligible. Nomination and induction consideration must be five years after their graduation (Any Alumni athlete who does not qualify based on  #1).

4. An athletic team shall be eligible for induction as a unit. The induction of a team shall not prohibit the separate induction of one or more of its members. If a team is inducted, the Hall of Fame Committee shall select a representative to accept the award. Team members may not nominate teams that they played for.

5. Persons currently coaching at Philander Smith University will not be considered for induction if the primary rationale for the consideration revolves around their coaching accomplishments while currently at Philander Smith University.
