Apr 24, 2023

Marshall, TX- Philander baseball finished their season with a bang on the road as they went 2-1 against Wiley College. Philander would win the first game of the double header that Saturday. Unfortunately, they would drop the next game to bring the record to 1-1. PSC handled business, finishing the series off on Sunday in the last game of the regular season 11-6 over the Wildcats. Things are looking good for the Panthers as they lock down the fourth spot in the regular season.

Philander started game one off with some big hits, including three and a RBIs home run by freshman Angel Figueroa to put them up 3-0 in the top of the 1st inning. Wiley would score off of an error from the Panthers bringing the score to within 1. But the bats will get hot in the 2nd and 5th inning for the Panthers as they rally 5 runs in both innings to bump the score to 8-2 in the top of the 2nd and to 13-4 in the 5th.

In game two PSC started out slow, not scoring in the first inning and going down 0-2. C. Russel hit a double to change the momentum of things in the second inning to put the Panthers up 3-2. Things cooled off after that inning with Wiley going on to runs to extend the lead by 6 runs. L. Scott hit a single to left field and was able to advance to second on the throw, allowing J. Zorola to score. Philander concluded the double header with a tie, losing game two.

Game 3- This was a back-and-forth series as both teams won by 4 or more in the first two games. The Panthers beat the Wildcats by 5 runs in the final game of the series. Philander had 6 players to have RBIs in the game. Juan Zorola with 2, Mitchell Brown, Blake Wambold, Lawrence Scott, Jose Alsina with, and Angel Figueroa with 3 to himself. This win would put Philander in 4th place in the conference.
