Panthers Defeat Rams Of Houston-Tillotson

Philander Smith (AR) Vs. Huston Tillotson (TX)- On November 2nd Philander faced off against Huston Tillotson in the HBCU Conference Challenger between the GCAC and Red River. Philander would take the win with 64-50.

The game started close with both teams going shot for shot. During the entire first half, neither team could grab control of the game as both teams looked to take off with the lead. Going into the half, with the score being 28-26, the Panther's up by 2. 

The Panthers took control of the game about 7 minutes into the second half, as the Panthers would start to further their lead by 5. Raymond Reece's layup, assisted by Amorey Womack, would give Philander a 7-point lead with 5 minutes in the game. The Panthers set cruise control for the rest of the game. 

The Panther's shooting performance would give them the edge in the game. PSU shot 40.7% from the field and also shot decently from the free-throw line with 75%. Huston Tillston was held to just 30.8% from the field, which showed the pressure of PSU's defense. 

Philander's top performer was Raymond Reece who had another double double scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. This was Reece's second double-double of the year. Christione Rufus would always contribute 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. Huston Tillotson's top scorer would be Faybeyon Shelton with 12 points.

Overall Philander's grit and defense helped them secure the victory over Huston Tillotson. Both teams would play hard to represent their conference in the HBCU Conference Challenger. PSU will Take on Texas College tomorrow in the second game of the HBCU Classic in Austin, TX.
